The Pygmy Bandar's Were Right

[june2-2008 - Old Draft - which I had forgotten to post! Posting today]

.. The phantom never dies.

I fondly remember the days, when a summer day would being with swimming and then was followed by any of these activities over and over in no particular order
1. swimming
2. reading phantom
3. reading mandrake
4, playing video games (computer or not)
5. playing cricket
6. playing cards
7. having loads of ice cream
8. fighting with dad with the special _kawti_ ring on the hand!
9. conjuring the spells aka mandrake style with lothar!

Wow! What were those days!
All these memories came back to me in a flash when I read about "The Ghost Still Walks" in yesterday's Times of India pg.8 .

The story was mostly about how people in their 40s still are on the lookout of the rarely published Phantom and Mandrake comic series. Wow! Even me!
Though I am not 40 or anywhere near that, my dad has a huge collection of Phantom and Mandrake comics (mostly in Hindi and Marathi, rarely English).
During the summer days, it was invariably that every summer I read the same collection!
Phantom and Mandrake together had a large influence on me! I just could read through them hundreds of times. Frankly, until now I have read my dad'e entire collction more than 20 times!
My mom, once had told me that even she had read through all the comic strips numerous times!
She had done so just after her marriage to my dad!

I was lucky enough to be able to read through these rare collections! I still enjoy reading thgouh them whenever I can.

During my childhood, Chacha Choudhary was the undisputed champion of comic strips. THen later on I also had read the Asterix and Obelix series, Which is again one of my favorites!

Still, the charm that Mandrake , Lothar spell and the Ghost who lives will live in the hearts of their readers forever.

I always had imagined a story, involving Phantom against Mandrake! or they together against the Octet! Would have been so much fun!

Google Search or Think!?

Technology tends to separate normal from natural. Our bodies weren't designed to eat the foods that people in rich countries eat, or to get so little exercise. There may be a similar problem with the way we work: a normal job may be as bad for us intellectually as white flour or sugar is for us physically. - Paul Graham

Very interesting comparison.

Our bodies were designed for all this? this assume's a designer... really, was there a designer? or was it evolution!
Was even our mind designed to do tasks that we do today? hasn't it just evolved.?
